Employment Freelance Reading
Building up credit (or good job references) is important to know about and can set a job seeker well ahead of the game if the job seeker remembers to document. Learning to document anything from good references to projects well done to informal notes and communications can all help prove that a person is a good candidate for a position.
Maintaining Good Job References
Maintaining good job references is an important skill that is taught early on when searching for jobs. It is never wise to burn bridges of old employers and people who are familiar with a prospective employee’s work ethics and skills. The initial step to building up credibility would be for a prospective employee to keep written documentation of names, titles, and phone numbers of old employers who had a high opinion of the employee – the more information the better. Sometimes names of companies change or go out of business, so keep track of that as well. Temporary or freelance assignments qualify for references and any projects done on the job (short or long), too.
According to writer Rachel Zupek of Careerbuilder.com, in an article titled 10 Things to Leave off Your Resume, leaving references off of the resume is best suited to today's job seekers. It is wise to provide them at the employers request. The phrase "References Available Upon Request" holds no value anymore according to the article.
